Ireland - 1 Day Tour

Ireland!!  I was so excited to tour this country famous for Shamrocks, Leprechauns, the colour Green, Guinesss Beer, Irish dancing, the countryside, red hair, Gaelic football, hurling, horse racing, pubs, churches and Luck.

Exploring the country started with a 1 day tour (which was complimentary with my hostel booking at Paddy's Palace in Dublin).  On this tour I explored Glendalough, County Wicklow and Kilkenny
The awesome Paddywagon tour buses!

Guinness Lake
It really does look like a pint of Guinness!
The lake is located in the Wicklow Mountains, an hour south of Dublin.

Glendalough

Glendalough or Glendaloch, meaning "glen of two lakes" is a glacial valley in County Wicklow, Ireland. It is renowned for its Early Medieval monastic settlement founded in the 6th century by St Kevin, a hermit priest, and partly destroyed in 1398 by English troops.

Wicklow Mountains

The Wicklow Mountains form the largest continuous upland area in Ireland. They occupy the whole centre of County Wicklow and stretch outside its borders into Counties Carlow, Wexford and Dublin. Where the mountains extend into County Dublin, they are known locally as the Dublin Mountains. The highest peak is Lugnaquilla at 925 metres (3,035 feet).

Wicklow Gap

The bridge where Gerry (Gerard Butler) met Holly (Hillary Swank) on the movie P.S. I Love You.

Hollywood!! Hollywood?

Where was I, in Ireland or California?  Yes there is a small town named Hollywood in Ireland.

Hollywood, historically known as Killinkeyvin meaning "Kevin's little church", is a village in west County Wicklow, Ireland. It is situated on the Wicklow Gap road, near its junction with the N81 national secondary road. A population of less the 100 people registered in the 2002 Census, though the community draws from a larger area which consists of about 500 people.

I'll always remember these teenagers as they were enjoying the afternoon on their skateboards.  They were very friendly and excited about how much 'air' they caught in the picture I took of them!  Another photo of them is below.  They referred to me as their new Canadian friend :)

Kilkenny

Kilkenny castle

Kilkenny Castle is a castle in Kilkenny, Ireland built in 1195 by William Marshal, 1st Earl of Pembroke to control a fording-point of the River Nore and the junction of several routeways. It was a symbol of Norman occupation and in its original thirteenth-century condition it would have formed an important element of the defences of the town with four large circular corner towers and a massive ditch, part of which can still be seen today on the Parade.
